      The region of present-day New York State was the first Dutch settlement area. In 1624 the Dutch founded in Albany today, the "Fort Orange". On the island of Manhattan today they also founded the settlement of New Amsterdam. Middle of the 17th Century The British took over the region. They named the colony to New York. New York is one of the Middle Atlantic States. New York is called the "Empire State" and is one of the thirteen founding states of the USA.

       The mega city of New York on the Hudson River is known as the world's leading economic and trade center. New York City is the largest city in the United States and the fourth largest city in the world. New York City is one of the most important cultural centers of the Western world. Away from the big cities of New York State, however, is influenced very rural setting and a beautiful nature with forests, rivers, lakes and mountains.

       The Niagara Falls on the border of Canada located in New York State. The capital of the State of New York is Albany. Approximately 19.3 million people live in New York State; live in New York City alone, which about 8.18 million people. Other large cities are Rochester, Buffalo and Yonkers.
